The Haut Prés: from the protection of water resources to the economic development of the territory
Driven by sustainable development values, the Seine-Eure Agglomeration carries out projects allowing the population to have better living conditions. The water resources protection and the preservation of agricultural lands are the top two priorities of the Seine-Eure agglomeration. It is in this particular context that the agglomeration built an innovating project that includes the circular economy and the social and solidarity economy in order to create a new dynamic and to develop an offer of biological products on the Seine-Eure territory.
The field of the Hauts Prés feeds two thirds of the Seine-Eure territory’s inhabitants. The agglomeration wanted to conduct a proactive approach to protect this resource. Thus, 110 hectares have been acquired to encourage organic crops: 80 hectares for field crops and 30 hectares for the market gardening. An organic farming hub was also created to connect the protagonists of the biological sector and then allowing the development of this sector.
In total, 4 farmers, 9 market gardener, 1 beekeeper and a subsidized employment company have join in the adventure.
This operation has already created 8 jobs and maintained a local cereal farming. With time, a total of 48 people will be working on it with views of potential growth. These jobs are part of the social and solidary economy.
The Hauts Prés are finally a trademark of the Seine-Eure agglomeration, registered at the INPI. Its goal is to unite the protagonists who participate in the organic farming project.
